Fruit juice market value 2013-2023

In 2023, the fruit juice market in the United Kingdom (UK) was valued at over two billion British pounds. Compared to the previous year this constitutes an increase in market value. The market value of the fruit juice industry has been decreasing since 2013. The year 2016 bucked the trend but 2018 and 2019 saw a continuation of the decline that began six years earlier.

Falling fruit juice consumption is likely the cause of this development. Consumption numbers also showed a downward trend, declining every year from 2013 to 2019, with the exception of 2018. By contrast, 2020 to 2022 showed increasing figures again. Overall spending on the soft drinks market in the UK grew from 2015 to 2021, with a slight decrease in 2019, despite the trends on the juice market. This appears to be primarily due to an increase in the consumption of bottled water.

Juice consumption in focus

Orange juice was the most common flavor of fruit juice consumed in 2021 on the UK market. Almost two thirds of the market are made up of orange juice followed by apple, pineapple, and berries.

The 2019 report defines fruit juice as follows: "100% fruit content equivalent, sometimes referred to as pure juice or 100% juice. Chilled juice comprises four main types; freshly squeezed juice; not from concentrate juice; chilled from concentrate (may be from concentrate or part from concentrate); smoothies. Ambient or long life juice is mainly from concentrate." The 2020 report further adds that this includes "smoothies and coconut water".
